The Open de l’Escala, called “Emporium Chess Open” due to its internationalization (half of the registered players have foreign flags!), has crossed the equator. Today’s round, the fifth, saw very hard-fought and long matches. The tournament is progressing well, and the participants are enjoying it. A very exciting tournament finale is in the air.
After five rounds have been played, there are some outstanding results. For example, the excellent performance being had by CM Shrayan Majumder (India) who is in second place with 4.5 points. Or the performance of the young Malika Japparbekova (Kazakhstan), only 16 years old and who recently obtained a WIM norm at the Sants Open, who is in fifteenth position with 3 points.
There are four rounds left and a lot of fighting is expected on all boards.
